True Grit: Full Trailer
Last week we got the teaser and now we have a full trailer that has been playing attached to The Social Network this weekend. We now have a glimpse of the performances of the excellent cast and also a reminder of how great that Johnny Cash song is. This is at the top of my to see list for the rest of 2010.
Trailer: The King’s Speech
A preview of The Weinstein's major player this year which got rave reviews out of Telluride and Toronto.
Deathly Hallows
Trailer: The Fighter
Wow I guess it's that part of the season where all the big winter films start showing us a bit of what they got. About seven or eight years ago while I was in college a co-worker at my part time job would talk to me about boxing once in a while and I developed an interest. He told me the greatest fight he has ever seen was the first fight between Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward. In terms of talent they were far from the best but it is undeniably the most entertaining fight in the history of boxing. Both fighters had grit and determination rarely seen today.
I don't know much about the story of Micky Ward's personal life but whatever molded one of the biggest hearts the sport has seen is sure to be a hell of a story. Christian Bale as his brother looks like he is back to the type of work that once made me believe he had the chops to become one of the premiere actors working today. In case you have not guessed I am very much looking forward to seeing this film.
Trailer: The Tourist
Sony's big box office draw for this winter starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. It is directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck who made one of the better films in recent years in The Lives of Others. How will his transition to the English language and big budget action work out? History seems to show that such transitions can prove difficult.
Trailer: For Colored Girls
Let me say that I have never seen a Tyler Perry film before. However this trailer has me intrigued. The reserved way it is presented along with what appears to be the best cast he has ever worked with makes it appealing. Thandie Newton and Kerry Washington are probably enough to get me to go see it. Last year Tyler used his name to help promote Oscar contender Precious and this year it looks like he may have directed a possible contender himself. Or it could be the usual from him. Time will tell.
Trailer: Mildred Pierce
This isn't a film but it might as well be. Mildred Pierce stars Kate Winslet in the lead role and is being directed by Todd Haynes (Far From Heaven). The mini series will air on HBO in 2011. HBO already has the much anticipated series Boardwalk Empire set to premiere next week and is in a league of their own in terms of content right now. The only other network even remotely close to their production level is AMC. Are we in a golden age of television right now with the programming on these two networks?
Trailer: Hereafter
Clint Eastwood's film revolves around three characters all dealing with death in some manner. The film is said to be serene and spiritual and that it starts out loud and ends soft. It will be screening on closing night of the New York Film Festival and I plan on catching it then.
